There are a number of advantages for upgrading Presto to the latest Presto version V2, as listed below. See the pricing section for details on upgrade costs.
- User interface improvements. A better layout of all the tools one regularly needs is here, and we have clearer messaging about drag and drop operations. This helps productivity and simplifies some training. As well, to prevent users from accidentally linking the wrong types of content (e.g. in the site navigation, a section page can't have the home page as a subpage), types of drag and drop operations can be blocked. A new Access tab shows which users have admin rights over particular content items. A new View tab enables users to see what their changes would look like on the live website.
- Improved local search engine. Previous Presto versions did not handle the entry of commas, quotes, and keywords like "and" and "or" in search text, and would generate an error if users typed in such things. All of this has been fixed.
- XHTML Transitional validated public websites. Presto can now produce XHTML web pages, which may be of use to institutions that now mandate this standard on their websites.
- Document approval for Content Authors and Content Managers is available.
- A new reporting interface provides a better way to view any existing custom reports that you may have in your Presto installation.
- Form functionality is improved. This includes measures to protect the form submission process from being hacked or crashed by invalid data. As well, popup help items can be added to help explain each form entry to users. When form contents are emailed, and then forwarded, MS Outlook used to show hidden fields on forms. It still does, but they are much less prominent.
- Better quality control: Most cold fusion scripting language errors that occur (Presto software errors, database connection errors, or custom code errors, or unexpected form submissions) can be detected and emailed to a website administrator for resolution.
- Speed is improved for sites that have complicated navigation menus or Presto managed-forms.
- Reduced cost of adding functionality to Presto websites. Adding forms, form contents-to-email and other functions are all easier to do than in previous Presto installations.
- Modules: The latest calendar, forum, and email distribution list modules can be installed too.
